WY Conventions (on Tour)

Posted on July 29th, 2010.

Area Wesleyan Youth Conventions are going on tour in 2011. In an effort to impact even more students, leaders, and churches – our Area WY Conventions are making their way to local churches all across North America…

These high intensity Wesleyan Youth Weekends for Jesus and the Church will take the place of area conventions. The goal is to host WY Weekends in four to six venues each year, focused in the spring and fall seasons. Look forward for more news about the theme, locations and dates for the WY Weekends to be announced very soon. Also, the International Wesleyan Youth Convention will be hosted every three years instead of every four years – starting December 28-31, 2012.

A new kind of convention.

Location, cost and timing are the top 3 factors leaders and students consider.  We have thoughtfully researched and prepared a transition that we believe will allow the youth movement of The Wesleyan Youth to be even more effective:

  • More Students: WY Conventions are still the largest events, and remain one of the most effective tools for promoting heart purity and obedience to God’s call on young lives as a denomination.  Regional WY Weekends will allow us to become even more localized to your ministry and promote more student involvement. Our mission is to reach more students.
  • More Leaders: Moving the conventions from centers and hotels to the local church allows us to go from doing four during one time frame (Dec. 28-31) to do at least 4 to 6 throughout the calendar year. Multiple local church venues create more opportunities for Wesleyan youth pastors and workers to rise up and serve in greater capacities. Our mission is to develop more leaders.
  • More Churches: Taking the area conventions on tour gives opportunity for the Youth Division of the Spiritual Formation Department and the local church to join forces and partner in reaching the current generation of high school and middle school students. Our mission is to support and build on relationships with our local churches.
  • More Impact: We will be thrilled to offer the same quality programming at a fraction of the cost. Cost has been a barrier for many students and youth groups. Taking these events on the road and partnering with local churches will reduce the registration expense by half.  Groups will have the liberty of handling their preferred lodging arrangements. Cheaper travel, lodging and registration will allow more students to attend a weekend that will have a major impact on their lives. Our mission is to maintain a standard of excellence and impact while being cost effective.
