Where’s your heart at?

Posted on February 11th, 2010.

While listening to a recent television interview, the question from a Navy Seals recruiter caught my attention.  He asked:  “Where’s your heart at?”  The context of his question was a feature explaining the fact that the Navy was recruiting elite high school and college athletes to join their “Seals” program.  He finished his remarks with a reality I too often forget:  “Be a part of a cause bigger than yourself.”

This is the core message of the Master Recruiter Himself!  This is the crux of what Jesus meant in His Great Commandment to us in Matthew 22:37-40.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

Where’s your heart at?  This is the key question of Spiritual Formation. Are you connected to Jesus so much that He spills out of your words, thoughts and deeds every day?  The truth is that we will only love everyone around us properly if we first know Christ and His love for us properly.  So, be a part of a cause bigger than yourself today.  Love Jesus.  Tangibly show others His love through your life.  Behave like you believe!
