Born Again…..Grow Up!
Posted on April 7th, 2010.It took me awhile to figure it out, but I learned to put just as much effort into what happened immediately after Easter weekend in the local church as I did in the time-frame leading up to Easter. A true, Wesleyan model of ministry values follow-up and discipleship almost as much as reaching someone for Jesus. In other words, we want people to be born again AND we want them to grow up in the Lord!
So, what are you doing in this post-Easter, Eastertide season to intentionally disciple your already and newly saved folks? In a recent article, George Bullard (whom I respect highly) said that denominations “…are failing to help their leading edge of faithful, effective, and innovative congregations to soar and fully express their spiritual gifts, strengths, and skills.” This is precisely why the Spiritual Formation Department of The Wesleyan Church exists. We want you to soar and we want to give you the resources you need to thrive in real-time ministry. We also want to learn from what you are doing so we can connect as many churches as possible for making more and better disciples of Jesus.
This is exactly why www.headhearthand.com exists. Take a look often. Let us know what is and what isn’t working for the ministry God has placed you in leadership. Let us know how we can serve you better. We would love for everyone possible to learn from your effectiveness and even your regrets. I wish someone had told me to plan for the weeks following Easter with as much passion as we planned for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. Once we were able to reach folks with the transforming power of the resurrection, we needed to have an intentional plan in place to help them develop with their newly found life in Jesus.
