What’s Your Story?

Posted on July 8th, 2010.

I love a good story.  Summertime usually creates an opportunity to do some casual reading, and I love a good story.  It is amazing how words and sentences strung together describing characters, places, and events can get you caught up and pull you in.  Kids love a good story too.  Their imaginations carry them away as they picture everything being described.  They long to be a part of the adventure and share the same experiences.

Do you know the best way to lead a child to Christ is by telling them a story.  Not just any story – but your story of what Jesus has done for you.  And telling them His story – of what he’s done for them. Ivy Beckwith suggests that children “are transformed by our stories when they see how our story intersects with theirs and discover a place for God in their own story” (Formational Children’s Ministry, 2010, p. 59).

Children are hungry to hear how God fits in their story – the story of their life.  What a wonderful gift you can give by sharing a story…the story of God.

But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. (Jeremiah 31:33).
