Preteens just want to hang out!
Posted on June 3rd, 2010.A recent survey by Disney XD that was reported in the May/June 2010 “Children’s Ministry” magazine showed: “Preteens use technology to enhance, rather than replace, face-to-face social interaction” (p. 20). In fact the survey showed that preteens prefer face-to-face contact 30% above texting!
While it is certainly an era of media overload and our kids are being bombarded with electronic images from a variety of directions, if given the option they still choose in person contact. As you jump into summer with a new group of preteens who are excited about entering a ministry designed just for them and moving beyond the children’s ministry, remember to keep it personal. Summer can be low-key and offer opportunities for activities that are just to hang out. What a great way to build relationships and begin momentum for an amazing fall of intentional discipleship!
