First Church on Facebook
Posted on August 5th, 2010.Now even telecommuting to church is lame. No more pesky Google searches, typing in web addresses, or clicking on Favorites to find this church’s website and online worship service. Northland Church in Orlando is bringing their services to you, live and on demand, on Facebook.
“At Northland, we often talk about the need to take the church to the people, versus asking them to come to us,” said Nathan Clark, director of digital innovation. “It was a wakeup call to realize that we were doing precisely that online –asking people to come to our website for worship.”
“So, Northland started a Facebook congregation. In addition to live streaming and four video locations in central Florida, the church now offers five Facebook services with an online pastor leading chat among the “attenders.” About 2,000 participate each week.
“Why require a virtual commute to our website when you can have church where people are?” Clark explains. 400 million people use Facebook.
